Ever since I was young, I’ve always loved grocery shopping. I always get really excited when I come home and I want to try every single thing right away! What can I say, I love my food! Now it’s turned into one of my favorite ways to relax after a long, stressful day or week at work. I wander the aisles, discover new products and find things that I would expect to only find at Whole Foods at traditional grocery stores. It’s an exciting time in the hippie/crunchy/vegan packaged food world! Even mainstream grocery stores are beginning to offer things like kombucha, tempeh, dairy-free yogurt, and gluten-free bread. Needless to say, I’m like a kid in a candy store when I’m at a new market and I consider it my personal mission to find cool items. Yeah, a lot of it is vegan junk food. Most packaged food is not going to be very healthy for you, that’s just a fact of life. But when I’m not eating rice and veggie bowls, I want some chips, I want some chocolate, and I want something with peanut butter in it! I love snacks. So sue me.
Since I love geeking out over my grocery hauls, I figured I’d share some of my favorite finds with you guys. Some of them may be new purchases and some of them may be old standbys, but all of them get two enthusiastic thumbs up from me! I’m someone who loves her food but I also need to be aware of what I’m eating and how it makes my body feel, even when I’m snacking. So that normally means that I only eat things that make me feel good afterwards (some exceptions every once in a while of course!). These posts will be alllll about sharing my excitement for food – there’s nothing more pure than that!
Talenti Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto
Talenti has recently joined the ranks of frozen dessert brands that are now offering dairy-free options and DAMN this flavor is my current obsession. It’s so rich and creamy, and it has a texture unlike any other vegan ice cream on the market. I found it at a traditional grocery store (on sale too!) and now it’s my gold standard for ice cream.
Farmhouse Culture Dill Pickle Kraut Krisps
Yeah, these are chips. There’s no getting around that. But these guys taste SO good. They’re made of sauerkraut but who really knows if they retain their probiotic properties once they’re in chip form so I’m not really holding my breath or claiming that these are insanely healthy. But these guys are slightly tangy and salty and have the perfect crunch! Yum!
Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Honey Mints
I eat honey and I still consider myself vegan. If you’re not down with this, then move on to the next item! These guys are one of my favorite chocolatey treats! There’s chocolate on the outside and peppermint and honey on the inside and they make for a great after-meal treat. I love to enjoy these at work when I need a sweet pick me up!
SuperSeedz Maple Sugar & Sea Salt Pumpkin Seeds
Oh man. I had to stop buying these because I would inhale them at an alarming rate. Chris was the one who first discovered these and this flavor is definitely my favorite. The perfect blend of sweet and salty, these seeds are a great source of protein, magnesium, and zinc and are great for combatting inflammation!
Unreal Dark Chocolate Peanut Gems
Okay, I had to include one more thing with chocolate and these candies are eerily reminiscent of peanut M&M’s! They’re colored naturally using things like beet juice and turmeric and even though they’re definitely pricey they make for a fun indulgence every once in a while! Sometimes you just need vegan candy, ya know?
GT’s Liberty Kombucha
I’m a big fan of kombucha, and lately I’ve come to the realization that I really need to be making it myself because I’m spending a lot of money buying individual bottles! I found this limited edition flavor recently and it is SO tasty! It combines watermelon, cherry, and lime and it reminds me of the Brigham’s raspberry lime rickeys of my childhood! People outside of New England probably won’t get that reference… it’s carbonated, tart from the lime juice, and fruity. What more could you want?
What snacks are you currently geeking out over? Is there anything that I absolutely need to try? Let me know!
